LVRThe Autumn Edition 2026Your local friend in Korea

About LVR

LVR is your local friend in Korea: practical travel guides from a small Korean team, with experience, opinion and checked facts kept apart.

Your local friend in Korea

LVR stands for Local Voices, Real Journeys. We write the guides we'd give a friend who is visiting Korea, especially for the first time.

A good local friend doesn't hand you a top-ten list. They ask who you're traveling with, how much time you have and what you like to eat. Then they tell you what they'd do, and they help you plan the hours before and after it. That is the job we set ourselves for every guide.

LVR is run by a small team of Koreans who live in Korea. Our legal operator is Mabro Labs Inc. (주식회사 마브로랩스), a company registered in Korea.

What we cover

Our guides are organized into seven desks:

DeskWhat it covers
Arrive & MoveAirports, trains, buses, taxis and the last mile to your bed
Connect & PayeSIMs, cards, cash and the apps that work here
StayWhich neighborhood to sleep in, and what a room really includes
Eat & DrinkMarkets, solo meals, ordering, and when a food tour helps
Culture & HistoryPalaces, hanbok, museums and the context behind them
NeighborhoodsWhere to spend an afternoon, an evening or three days
Nature & Day TripsThe DMZ, mountains and days that start outside Seoul

Most guides start from a real question a traveler would ask, such as "Should I book a food tour or go on my own?" The answer comes first, followed by the details you need to act on it.

Meet the editors

You'll see four editors on LVR. Each one is a pen name with an illustrated character, run by a real member of our Korean team. The drawings are characters, not portraits.

  • Brandon, Founding Editor. Brandon grew up in Daegu, lives in Seoul and has worked across North America, Africa and Europe. He recommends Korea the way he would to a visiting friend: food first, with a plan for the hours around it.
  • Mina, City & Culture Editor. Seoul's neighborhoods and culture: where to spend an afternoon, what to look at closely, and why a place is worth the trip.
  • Hana, Tours & Day Trips Editor. Tours, day trips and the logistics around them: time, effort, meeting points and who each choice suits.
  • Jin, Food & Nature Editor. Korean food and days outdoors: the right pace, the right season, and getting home again.

When an editor writes about something they have done themselves, that story comes from their own recorded account. Mina, Hana and Jin are still completing their profiles, so for now their guides are researched guides with no first-person visits. We'll add their backgrounds here as they're confirmed.

How we work

Every guide keeps four kinds of information apart, so you always know what you're reading:

  1. What we saw. First-hand experience, used only when it's the editor's own. If we haven't been, we say so.
  2. What we think. An editor's own taste and opinion, written as opinion.
  3. What the supplier says. Times, inclusions and prices from a tour company or booking site, with the date we checked.
  4. What you can do yourself. The independent option, even when it earns us nothing.

Facts come from official sources wherever we can find them: tourism boards, transit operators, government sites and the businesses themselves. Each guide lists its sources and the date we checked them. We use AI tools to help with research, drafting and checking, and every guide is checked against its sources before it's published. Read the details in our editorial policy.

How LVR makes money

Some links on LVR are affiliate links. If you book through one, we may earn a commission. Right now the only affiliate links on LVR go to Viator. Commissions never decide what we recommend. Our affiliate disclosure explains how it works.

What we won't do

  • Make up visits, meals, tours or conversations, or present research as experience.
  • Publish fake reviews, or pick only the best reviews to make a product look good.
  • Present a supplier's "from" price as what you'll actually pay.
  • Promise that you'll enjoy something. We can tell you who a choice suits and what you'll trade off.
  • Accept payment to include, rank or praise a product. We have no sponsored posts today. If that ever changes, sponsored content will be clearly labeled before you start reading.
  • Use AI images as if they were real photos of a place, tour or product.
